Yorkville Rapids - Update

I need Winter to be over.

The Pugsley as been an incredible option for Winter fun, but I need the Sun and I want to ride my Moots. I want to roll down my driveway and go "float" for about a fifty miler, enjoying the the Sun and the warm breeze of a Spring day, lets just say about mid 60 degrees(if you know me, you know I don't like heat).

I also want to do some paddling.....and Yorkville continues to become more interesting. The Geneva Kayak Center has relocated to Yorkville and promising some exciting things to come!

The Yorkville Rapids

A new "whitewater" section has been nearly completed in Yorkville on the Fox River.  It has been under development for the last few years to allow for safer passage to canoes and kayaks to go past the Glen D. Palmer Dam.

I read that the second more difficult rapids section rates at about a Class 2.5, certainly not the Gauley River, but its going to be a whole lot of fun to check out!

More details:

"The completion of the chute, which is the project's second phase, will come almost 3 years after the first phase was finished.  The first phase of the project included the addition of a fish ladder and a new spillway. 

That project, finished in spring 2008, allows fish to move up and down stream, while the new spillway provides safer downstream conditions for small boats, such as canoes and kayaks.

The whitewater chute is intended to make it easier for canoeists and kayakers to navigate their boats through the dam site.  Boaters will notice two separate passageways, with one more challenging than the other. 

The moderate waterway will allow passengers of open or closed deck boats to safely maneuver through the dam site with plenty of visibility and a minimal risk of injury to capsized boats. 

The second route, however, will carry more of a challenge.  The challenge waterway, which is meant for mostly closed deck boats, comes complete with moderate rapids." - source
